Navajo Code Talker Visits Kahnawą:ke

07/29/2008

A Navajo World War II veteran who served as a Code Talker for the U.S. military is visiting Kahnawą:ke.

Kee Ettsitty, who lives in Arizona, will meet with Chiefs Kenneth McComber, Marvin (Melvin) Zacharie and Johnny Montour at the MCK offices. These chiefs all served in the U.S. military. A luncheon will follow.

Local media is also invited to attend.

Code Talkers gained fame during the war because of their use of the Navajo language, which the enemy was unable to understand or decipher. A major Hollywood motion picture portraying the story, Windtalkers, was produced in 2002.
