Community Notice: Wild Animal Activity
08/19/2008
The Animal Protection and Kahnawą:ke Conservation Units of the Mohawk Council of Kahnawą:ke are advising community members to be aware of wild animal activity in the wooded and less-populated areas of Kahnawą:ke.
Over the past few days many residents have reported incidents to the Animal Protection Unit regarding such activity. One reported seeing a bear in the area of Route 207.
This notice is being sent as reminder to community members to avoid approaching wild animals, and to remain extra vigilant when in wooded areas, said Director of Community Protection Terry Diabo. We would like to remind everyone that wild animals may look unthreatening but should always be considered as potentially dangerous. They can attack when they feel threatened or provoked.
The Animal Protection Unit and the Kahnawą:ke Conservation Department will increase patrols in these areas.
For more information or to report wild animal activity, please contact the Animal Protection Unit or the Kahnawą:ke Conservation Department at 450-632-0635 or, in case of emergency, the Kahnawą:ke Peacekeepers at 450-632-6505.
