Task Force Announces New Significant Directive

10/07/2020

The Kahnawà:ke COVID-19 Task Force wishes to advise the community of significant new directives being announced today as part of the Red/Onekwénhtara pandemic status phased-in approach.

This means there is a significant increase or sustained level of community spread and maximum risk of transmission. Enhanced measures must continue to be followed and further encouraged. More restrictive measures will be implemented, while attempting to avoid the confinement that was experienced during the first wave.

Effective at 11:59pm on Friday, October 9th, gatherings in private residences will be prohibited. Only those who are part of the household should be in the home. This includes on your property, as well. Those providing care or assistance to someone in need are exempt.

“The current situation in Quebec shows the numbers are headed in the wrong direction,” said Lloyd Phillips, the Head of the Task Force. “This was not any easy decision that will, once again, cause a great deal of stress for our people but we must remind Kahnawa’kehró:non of our mandate to protect our most vulnerable population and the community as a whole.”

Please note that, at this time, pool services, home repairs and construction are still permitted, though that may change at a future date.

The situation in and around Kahnawake continues to be assessed on an ongoing basis. If required, additional measures as outlined in the RED alert level may be implemented.>

The Task Force wishes to remind Kahnawa’kehró:non of their personal responsibility to follow the measures and guidelines to protect themselves, their family, and fellow community members.

Distance, Frequent Hand Washing and Masks.
