MCK takes issue with personal attacks on Task Force members

10/09/2020

The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke wishes to advise the community that it takes issue with the actions of a small number of persons who have made personal attacks on certain members of the Kahnawà:ke COVID-19 Task Force.

While the MCK always supports and defends the right to disagree or protest, it is never acceptable to attack anyone on a personal level. The members of the Task Force have been working tirelessly for months to keep our community safe from the pandemic, which has killed nearly 10,000 people in Canada.

They have the full support of the MCK. While it is not often said, the Task Force consists of members of all the major services in the community, as well as the Longhouses. Decisions are never taken lightly and are always made with the goal of protecting our people. We have been very fortunate to have escaped some of the worst effects of the pandemic and – for that – we should all be thankful.

While the vast majority of Kahnawa’kehró:non understand the need to take strong measures, there will always be those who have differing opinions. We must all act in the best interest of the collective and, most important, always act in a respectful manner – as our ancestors taught us. We need to support each other in order to get through this very difficult time.
