Task Force has NOT cancelled Halloween
10/09/2020
The Kahnawà:ke COVID-19 Task Force wishes to assure the community that, despite the rumors, Halloween has NOT been cancelled. Recommendations on how to celebrate Halloween safely are forthcoming.
However, the planned Haunted Woods and Parade events were deemed to be unsafe as the statistics document that the highest risk in the community are Gatherings. The Task Force decision was made to decrease the limits of Gatherings within the community to only household family members.
"The hope is that by increasing restrictions now, we will flatten the current wave," said Task Force member Arnold Lazare. "Because we don’t know how long it will last, no tentative end date to the restrictions has been set, but as we move on, individuals’ responsibility will become ever more important."
The situation in and around Kahnawà:ke continues to be assessed on an ongoing basis. If required, additional measures as outlined in the RED alert level may be implemented.
The Task Force wishes to remind Kahnawa’kehró:non of their personal responsibility to follow the measures and guidelines to protect themselves, their family, and fellow community members. If possible, shop Kahnawà:ke whenever possible for your Halloween decorations, costumes and treats, and ensure they are prepackaged and easily cleaned (i.e. chips, canned drinks, chocolate bars).
Distance, Frequent Hand Washing and Masks.
