Soil Studies at Kanawaki begin tomorrow
11/10/2020
The Kahnawà:ke Environment Protection Office (KEPO) wishes to inform the community that further environmental studies will be taking place at the Kanawaki Golf Club, beginning Wednesday, November 11th.
In recent years, environmental characterizations have found elevated levels of mercury and other heavy metals on portions of the golf course. KEPO is now interested in determining the volume of soil that is impacted. To accomplish this, three hundred soil samples will be collected on the course and four additional monitoring wells will be installed. The work is expected to last approximately three weeks, weather dependent.
KEPO will be assisted in the field work and data analysis by a consultant, EXP, that has expertise in environmental characterization and remediation. Results of this work will be presented to the community next Spring.
For more information on this project, please contact KEPO at 450-635-0600 or at Environment.Protection@mck.ca.
