Sports Complex closure allows for necessary repairs
12/09/2020
The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke wishes to update the community on developments regarding the closure of the Kahnawake Sports Complex for ice rentals this season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The downtime resulting from the closure has allowed the MCK to undertake much-needed repairs, and to perform preventative maintenance ahead of schedule on the 33-year-old facility.
Work includes substantial repairs on the ice-making equipment. Improvements are also underway for the dressing room areas, which is usually difficult because in normal times they are in use 12 months of the year.
Additionally, an engineering firm has been contracted to gauge the lifespan on the arena’s concrete floor, after which plans will be determined regarding next steps.
Finally, the MCK is looking at the installation of a proper wheelchair ramp and reconfiguring the placement of accessible parking areas.
