Tammy Whitebean recipient of Lori Niioiren Jacobs Memorial Recognition Award

12/11/2020

The Mohawk Council of Kahnaw:ke, K1037 Radio, Mohawk Online and the Kahnaw:ke Gaming Commission are pleased to announce that Tammy Whitebean has been selected as the recipient of the 2020 Lori Niioi:ren Jacobs Memorial Recognition Award.

Tammy has been a volunteer for many years and is well-known for her efforts throughout the community, said Gina Deer, the Chairperson of the Committee that oversees the Award. She has volunteered at the Fire Hall, numerous fundraisers, and delivered much-needed supplies to those in need. She epitomizes the type of person who helps make our town better. Though people know her and the effort she makes she does so quietly, effectively and without fanfare. She volunteers because she loves to help and make a positive contribution.

Due to the pandemic, the presentation of the Award will take place at a later date.

The Award is presented annually to a member of the community who exemplifies qualities of dedication, perseverance, and volunteerism that contribute positively to the betterment of Kahnaw:ke. It was created to honor the late Lori Niioi:ren Jacobs a strong, independent and remarkable Kanienkeh:ka woman who was well-known for her involvement in numerous activities, causes, boards of directors, commissions and organizations as well as her incredible work ethic. Lori volunteered and worked tirelessly throughout her life to make her community a better place. She passed away on April 21st, 2016.

The Award is accompanied by a $1000 bursary. It is presented to an individual who has demonstrated an outstanding commitment to Kahnaw:ke with his/her involvement in the type of activities that were integral to Loris life.
