Beware of potential Scam involving Personal Protective Equipment
12/18/2020
The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) is asking community members and, especially, community organizations to be aware of possible scams being perpetrated by a company based in Ontario.
The callers claim to have spoken with “a Chief,” claiming that Council has asked them to check with a service (for example, the KFB, Step by Step, etc.) regarding their needs for Personal Protective Equipment. The caller then sends an invoice without receipt of goods or authorization.
The MCK has NOT authorized any companies to conduct this type of activity.
The MCK reminds community members that they should be very wary of this type of approach by any company or individual. It goes without saying that organizations should be prepared to address this type of scam by refusing to pay any invoices without proper authorization.
As stated many times, anyone who receives any calls of a suspicious nature should contact the Peacekeepers at 450-632-6505.
