Directive 55 – Non-Essential Businesses Closed for January

The Kahnawà:ke COVID-19 Task Force wishes to inform the community and all business owners that new restrictions will be in place for January 2021. As per Directive 55, all non-essential businesses will be closed, including cigarette stores, from Friday, December 31st at midnight until January 31st, 2021.
These new restrictions will also impact the manufacturing sector (those deemed essential can remain open), with limitations placed on personnel to reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission. For clarity, letters will be hand delivered to all businesses, whether directed to close or allowed to remain open.
The following businesses/industries will be closed, AND curbside pick-up is prohibited:
- All cigarette/tobacco stores
- All factories/warehouses
- Hair salons/aesthetics
Businesses that are permitted to stay open and offer contactless/curbside pick-up/deliveries;
- Grocery and convenience stores (no tobacco products/cigarette sales to non-locals)
- Restaurants/food services – take-out/curbside pick-up and delivery ONLY
- Pharmacies
- Hardware stores
- Massage/physiotherapy/acupuncture/reflexology
- Gyms
- Construction and trades/electricians/plumbers/movers
- Hotels
- Pet Food and supplies
- On-line services
- Media and telecommunications
- Auto mechanical repairs
All gas stations, grocery, and convenience stores are permitted to sell tobacco products to LOCAL RESIDENTS ONLY! The sale of these products to non-locals is strictly prohibited under penalty of a fine.
Directive 55 aims to minimize the spread of COVID-19 in Kahnawà:ke and help protect our most vulnerable residents.
