Elders to receive COVID-19 Vaccination

01/05/2021

The Kahnawą:ke COVID-19 Task Force (Task Force) is very pleased to inform the community that elders will begin receiving the Moderna COVID-19 vaccination tomorrow.

Kateri Memorial Hospital Staff (KMHC) staff will be administering the vaccine at the KMHC and Turtle Bay Elders Lodge on Wednesday, January 6th.  Residents at the Independent Living Centre will be receiving their vaccines next week.

“This portion of the vaccination campaign is focused on our elders, who are at a greater risk of contracting COVID-19,” said Lisa Westaway. “We are super excited that a large group of our elders are being vaccinated tomorrow. This is monumental!!!”

The Task Force would like to remind the community that in accordance with government guidelines, Kahnawą:ke is following the prioritization of the vaccine, which is currently reserved for health and social service professionals in long term care facilities, and our vulnerable elders living in Kahnawą:ke residences.

A general vaccination campaign is expected to be rolled out within the next several weeks.
