MCK offers condolences as community suffers losses
01/26/2021
The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke wishes to offer its sincerest condolences to the families and friends of those community members who have passed away recently, especially during this past 24 hours.
The pandemic has been difficult for all of us. Since last March we have suffered the loss of many Kahnawa’kehró:non. With the many restrictions put in place to help protect us, we have not been able to mourn their losses in the manner to which we have long been accustomed. While we have persevered and adapted, the loss of three community members in such a short space of time has come as a shock and caused a great deal of collective grief. We share that grief, and offer our kindest thoughts to parents, grandparents, brothers, sisters, sons, daughters and cousins of those we have lost.
The MCK would like to take this time to thank the community for its patience and understanding throughout this incredibly difficult time in our history. The challenges have been extraordinary, but it is clear that, as a community, Kahnawa’kehró:non continue to move forward to the best of our abilities. It is through that spirit of love, respect, and cooperation that we have continued to limit the number of those affected by the COVID-19 virus.
May we all continue to support our neighbors, colleagues, fellow Kahnawa’kehró:non and, especially, those who are experiencing the loss of family members or friends during this pandemic.
