First Visioning Essays Ready for Publication
10/08/2008
The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke is proud to announce that the first of a series of essays received from community members as part of a special project entitled My Future Vision of Kahnawà:ke will be published in the fall Onkwariwa’shon:’a newsletter.
The project was launched officially in Ohiarì/June and is, essentially, each participant’s individual dialogue with the community. The essays address any subject from the writer’s area of expertise, projecting his/her wishes or changes that he/she believes would improve our community’s life in the future.
Approximately 79 essays were received from all age groups. The first set to be published will be from grade 6 students. Community members are encouraged to look for the Onkwariwa’shon:’a newsletter in their mailboxes in the upcoming days. Another group of essays will be published in the near future.
“We have been thrilled at the number of people willing to submit their essays and the amount of thought that was put into the writing,” said Project Coordinator Christine Zachary-Deom. “The depth of loyalty to our community shines through very clearly.”
Additionally, community members wishing to participate in a survey on the Visioning project are asked to contact Ms. Zachary-Deom at 450-632-7500.
