Reminder – Safe Indoor and Outdoor Gatherings

04/26/2021

The Kahnawà:ke COVID-19 Task Force wishes to remind the community of the importance of following Directive 36.5 Private Home Visits Permitted with a Maximum of up to 8 People Outdoors, which allows for outdoor visitation for a maximum of eight (8) people and indoor visitation with one (1) other household at a time, provided safe masking, distance and hygiene are exercised.

Currently, Kahnawà:ke has six (6) active cases with over 100 persons (from 49 different households) in isolation, which are all directly related to gatherings. The Local Public Health Team has carried out their due diligence with informing all affected persons who were identified as contacts of these positive cases.

“We expect that with more visitation, comes the increased risk of transmitting the virus,” said Commissioner of Public Safety Lloyd Phillips. “The rising number of cases show us that when we have visits, we need to increase our vigilance in how safe we are when surrounded by family and friends.”

Proper masking, distance and hygiene are the foundation of conducting a safe visit.

It is NOT recommended that private home visits take place if you or someone in your home are at-risk (over 70, immune-suppressed). Additionally, visits should NOT take place if:

  • You or someone in your home has COVID-19 or related symptoms;
  • You have been around a positive case or are currently in isolation;
  • You or someone in your household are awaiting COVID-19 test results; or
  • You have recently travelled.

The Task Force appreciates your vigilance in this matter. Details on Directive 36.5 can be accessed online at www.kahnawake911.com/directives.
