Reminder - KEPO Lake Sturgeon Study continuing to mid-June
05/05/2021
The Kahnawà:ke Environment Protection Office (KEPO) would like to remind the community that fieldwork for the Lake Sturgeon Study is underway and is expected to continue until mid-June.
The study began on Thursday, April 29th.
This work is Phase 2 of the study and will confirm whether identified potential habitat is being actively used by the sturgeon. This is being done by placing egg mats on the bottom of the river and counting the eggs that land on them. Fishing will also take place to identify locations where sturgeons are gathering during the spawning period.
This work will be done in collaboration with the Quebec Wildlife Ministry, a consultant hired by KEPO, local fisherman Eric McComber, and staff from KEPO.
For questions, please contact KEPO at 450-635-0600 or Environment.Protection@mck.ca.
