Essential Snow Removal Services for Elderly & Disabled

10/22/2008

The Special Projects Division of the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) is pleased to announce the return of the Essential Snow Removal Services program for elderly and disabled Kahnawa’kehró:non, and will be accepting client applications from Monday, October 27th to Friday, November 7th.

This service is designed to provide access to client residences for emergency services from the front door to the street only, with one pass from the driveway to walkway, if needed.

“While we continue to strongly encourage people to help their family members, we realize that there are some cases when this is impossible,” said Chief Peggy Mayo-Standup. “This program helps those at a disadvantage maintain their independence.”

Only 65 clients can be accepted and an administration fee of $50 will be charged to clients to offset operational costs. The current costs are $12,500.00 for the contractor (JD Asphalt) and an extra $150 per salting session (large storms).

Anyone wishing to apply for this service can pick up an application form at the main reception of the MCK.

The program will be in operation from November 15, 2008 to April 15, 2009. Any person wishing to apply can obtain full details about this service by contacting Andrea Montour, MCK Operations Assistant, at 450 632 7500, extension 262.
