Tekakwitha Island and Bay Project update

The Mohawk Council of Kahnaw:ke (MCK) would like to update the community on the status of the beach development on Tekakwitha Island. Finishing touches are still being completed at the beach and it is therefore not yet officially open. Safety features will be installed in the coming weeks and lifeguards are being hired. The official opening for the beach is anticipated the week of June 28th. More information will be provided closer to that date.

Once the beach has opened, regular bacteriological testing of the water will be conducted by KSCSs Environmental Health Services. Water quality information will be posted on-site and on the Recreation Departments Facebook page. Until such time as these measures are in place, use of the area is not recommended and is at your own risk. For questions or comments on beach operations please contact MCKs Sports and Recreation Unit at 450-638-3311; for information on the Tekakwitha Island and Bay Project please contact the Kahnaw:ke Environment Protection Office at 450-635-0600 or
