Tekakwitha Island and Bay Project update
05/26/2021
The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) would like to update the community on the status of the beach development on Tekakwitha Island. Finishing touches are still being completed at the beach and it is therefore not yet officially open. Safety features will be installed in the coming weeks and lifeguards are being hired. The official opening for the beach is anticipated the week of June 28th. More information will be provided closer to that date.
Once the beach has opened, regular bacteriological testing of the water will be conducted by KSCS’s Environmental Health Services. Water quality information will be posted on-site and on the Recreation Department’s Facebook page. Until such time as these measures are in place, use of the area is not recommended and is at your own risk. For questions or comments on beach operations please contact MCK’s Sports and Recreation Unit at 450-638-3311; for information on the Tekakwitha Island and Bay Project please contact the Kahnawà:ke Environment Protection Office at 450-635-0600 or bayproject@mck.ca.
