Fire Ban lifted in Kahnawą:ke, still in effect in Tioweró:ton

06/15/2021

Forwarded on behalf of the Kahnawake Fire Brigade

The Kahnawą:ke Fire Brigade would like to advise the community that the current Fire Ban has been lifted in Kahnawą:ke, as yesterday’s rain has lowered the risk of fire.

However, the Fire Ban remains in effect in Tioweró:ton, where it has not rained in several days.

An alert had been issued last Thursday, June 10th in both Kahnawą:ke and Tioweró:ton.

Community members are reminded that safety measures should always be in place for campfires, barbecues and other types of burning. We should always be extra-careful in Tioweró:ton because of the nature of the Territory – which consists almost entirely of forest – and a lack of firefighting equipment on hand.
