Special Polls – A Call to the Mobility Disadvantaged
06/16/2021
The Office of the Electoral Officer is asking community members wishing to vote in the 2021 Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) election, and are mobility disadvantaged, to please register for the Special Poll being held at the Golden Age Club on Saturday, June 26th, from 10am to 12 noon.
Special accommodations are being made, as accessibility is limited for the venue on Election Day. As the community is aware, the regular poll will take place at the Sports Complex.
“As a result of the COVID-19 safety measures in place, the Kahnawà:ke Sports Complex has limited access possibilities,” said Electoral Officer Angus Montour. “Numerous stairwells may make it difficult for those with mobility issues to maneuver to the voting area. Therefore, taking part in the Special Poll may be the best way to cast your vote.”
Those interested in taking part of the Special Poll should contact Electoral Officer Angus Montour at angus.montour@kahnawakeelections.com or by telephone at 514-442-9114. All requests must be received by Wednesday, June 23rd at 12 noon.
The letter of request must include:
- Full name
- Date of birth
- Band number
- Box number
- Phone number
- Email address
- Signature
Arrangements can be made to bring ballots to households for those residents with no means of transportation as well as mobility issues.
Community members wishing to travel to the Golden Age Club for the Special Poll but lack means of transport can contact Connecting Horizons at 514-704-1176.
The 2021 Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke Election will take place on Saturday, July 3rd, at the Kahnawà:ke Sports Complex.
