Reminder - Respect fencing around sensitive areas on Tekakwitha island

07/05/2021

The Kahnawà:ke Environment Protection Office (KEPO) would like to remind the community to not enter the construction zones on Tekakwitha island, after ATV damage was identified in the newly seeded and planted Turtle Nesting Ground Area. (please see picture below)

Over the last few weeks, trees, plants and shrubs have been planted and exposed soils have been seeded to establish a stabilizing ground cover.

Newly planted vegetation and seeded areas are extremely fragile and can be easily destroyed if they are walked on or driven over by any motorized vehicle.

We are looking forward to turning over the completed project to the community once the areas are ready for use. Your cooperation in providing these areas the space and time they need to establish is greatly appreciated.

For more information, please contact KEPO at bayproject@mck.ca or 450-635-0600.
