Indian Day Schools Settlement Claim Assistance Sessions

The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) wishes to inform the community that the MCK Indian Day Schools (IDS) Settlement Project Coordinator has invited the Federal Indian Day School Community Support Program to Kahnawà:ke to assist and provide additional support in offering “Federal Indian Day School Community Support with a trauma-informed approach to delivering free, one-on-one help” with filling out or checking the status of IDS Claim Form(s).

As mentioned in a previous press release, the IDS sessions will be held at the Mohawk Legion Branch 219 this coming Monday, July 26, and Tuesday, July 27. Appointments are available Monday, from 10am to 7pm, and Tuesday, from 9am to 4:30pm. There are still some spots available.

New sessions have been added and will take place today (Friday, July 23) from 1pm to 4:30pm, and tomorrow (Saturday, July 24) from 10am to 4pm at the Golden Age Club. Please call the IDS Settlement Project Coordinator Louise Mayo directly at 514-793-0662. Walk-ins are welcome.

We will accept walk-ins and have a station set up for individuals interested in checking on the status of their IDS claim Form(s).

Additional Services on Site will include:

  • Mental Health Workers/Rovers available
  • Transportation has been arranged with Connecting Horizons for elders and community members with a disability and/or mobility issues. Please contact Louise Mayo to book a ride (number above).
  • Refreshments
  • Kanien’kéha translation services
  • A Sacred Fire will be set up from Monday, July 26, 21 at 6am, and will continue for the duration of the two days.

The deadline to apply for the IDS Settlement is on July 13, 2022.
