First official Application for Residency under the Kahnawake Residency Law

The Mohawk Council of Kahnaw:ke wishes to advise the community that the first official Public Notice of Application for Residency under the Kahnaw:ke Residency Law (the Law) is now posted. The posting appears at the end of this release.

Applications for residency have been available at the Office of the Kanienkeh:ka Registry (OKKR) since June of 2021. As per the Law and its regulations, applicants are subject to a 30-day public posting. Written objections must be made to, and received by, the Office of the Kahnaw:ke Kanienkeh:ka Registry.

The Kahnaw:ke Residency Law was passed by the community via the Community Decision Making Process, then formally enacted by Chief and Council on June 17, 2019. According to the Law, individuals not eligible to be on the Kahnaw:ke Kanienkeh:ka Registry need to apply for residency.

More information on the Kahnawake Residency Law and Regulations can be found on or call the OKKR at 450.638.0500.
