'Tree of Peace' Planting Ceremony

11/18/2008

The Court of Kahnawà:ke’s Sken:nen A’onsonton/Alternative Dispute Resolution Program would like to inform the community that they will be holding a White Pine Tree Planting ceremony in conjunction with the Kahnawake Survival School on November 20, 2008.

This ceremony will serve as the Court of Kahnawà:ke’s participation in National Restorative Justice week, as well as, an opportunity for students and attending community members to have informal discussions on issues of concern.

“This planting of this White Pine Tree is intended to remind us of the tools we were given by our ancestors to deal with conflict, and how to exist as Kanien’kehaka,” said Alternative Justice Coordinator, Dale Dione-Dell. “The planting is a symbolic reminder that we need to put our culture into action in order to survive and thrive.”

Presentations will be made at 8 am by Alternative Justice representatives Dale Dione-Dell and Davis Montour with a ‘Tree of Peace’ planting ceremony to be held at 2 pm.

All Kahnawa’kehró:non are invited and encouraged to attend. For more information, contact Dale Dione-Dell or Davis Montour at the Court of Kahnawà:ke at (450) 638-5647.
