Asbestos Civil Investigation nears completion
08/19/2021
The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke wishes to advise the community that the Asbestos Civil Investigation (ACI) Project, which has been underway since May 2021, is in its closing stages.
The investigation, which is being conducted independently by Deloitte Forensic, Inc., was mandated to gather facts, events, timelines and decision-making in regard to the matter of asbestos-containing materials being found in various areas within the Territory. Deloitte has conducted 28 interviews to date, all of which was at their discretion, to understand their experiences, and to determine facts based on those experiences.
The ACI Project Team expects a final report to be delivered by mid-September. It will be presented to the Ratitsénhaienhs (elected Council) by Deloitte. An executive summary of the final report, drafted by Deloitte as well, will be released to the community in September.
“We still have about a month left for the investigation but, with interviews finished, we are looking forward to the findings of the investigator,” said Ratsénhaienhs Cody Diabo, the Project Liaison. “We are confident that the report will allow our team to move forward with a more thorough process to ensure that this never happens again.”
