Soil movement for bay project

08/20/2021

The Kahnawà:ke Environment Protection Office (KEPO) would like to inform the community that preparations for work associated with the Tekakwitha Island and Bay Restoration Project on the south shore of the bay (mainland side) will begin the week of August 23rd.

The first activity will include the stockpiling of soils near the pump house (see picture) for use on project elements including enhancements to the shoreline and modification to storm sewer outfalls.

The soil consists of a mixture of the sediment dredged from the bay and imported sand. Soil quality samples have been completed and the soil is clean and suitable for use. The stockpile will be surrounded by sediment fence to contain the soil.

Trucks will operate between the hours of 7am and 5pm, Monday – Friday to deliver the soil. Each truck will have a permit issued by the Landfill Department for the movement of soil in the community.

For questions or comments about this phase of the restoration project, please contact KEPO at bayproject@mck.ca or 450-635-0600.
