Gaming Issue Follow-Up

Last week, the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke presented a statement to the community regarding its position against a specific gaming initiative in Kahnawà:ke. Over the past several years, the MCK has been approached by several groups or individuals from our community interested in establishing a land-based casino and/or lottery in Kahnawà:ke.

Chief and Council have made it clear that they do not support the establishment of any land-based casino at this time. The Chiefs also unanimously agree that any future land-based casino should be owned by the community and benefit the entire community.

In light of our recent statement, Council is asking for the involvement and direction from the community in helping us come to a conclusion on the future of gaming in the community.

This topic will be addressed at the next community meeting and possibly to continue to the Community Decision Making Process to allow for full and complete discussion on the subject.
