Fish Sampling follow-up work
09/01/2021
The Kahnawà:ke Environment Protection Office (KEPO) would like to inform the community that we will be completing Sampling for the Fish Identification Nearshore Survey (FINS) on Thursday, September 2nd, in collaboration with the Akwesasne Environment Department and the St. Lawrence River Institute.
The work will take place at two locations in the bay, including the old beach and close to the Iron Worker’s Monument. Netting will be conducted to capture, identify, measure, and release small fish and minnows. This work is a follow-up to work undertaken there in late June.
The two sites will become part of the larger FINS project led by the Akwesasne Environment Department to assess the health of small fish species and their habitats in nearshore locations of the St. Lawrence River.
Community members are encouraged to come out and ask questions of the survey team in the field. More information about the project can be found at https://riverinstitute.ca/research/fins/, or by calling KEPO at 450-635-0600.
