Lake John and Little Lake John trout study

09/13/2021

The Kahnawą:ke Environment Protection Office (KEPO) would like to notify the community that they are conducting a survey of the brook trout in Lake John and Little Lake John in Tioweró:ton from September 13-15.

This is a continuation of previous work evaluating the health of the trout populations and will be conducted with the Tioweró:ton caretakers. Four (4) nets will be used to capture trout. These nets will be checked at 1.5-3.5 hour intervals. Measurements and small fin samples will be taken to determine fish age. All fish will be returned to the lakes where they were caught.

Results of the study will be presented to the community in workshops and via public releases on our website this winter. The information will supplement the Catch Reporting Program in Tioweró:ton.

KEPO personnel will wear orange safety vests to ensure that they are visible. KEPO will also be operating boats at night. The boats will be well-marked with lights.

Questions/concerns can be addressed on-site or by contacting the Kahnawą:ke Environment Protection Office at 450-635-0600 or environment.protection@mck.ca.
