Háo Tewaiéntho Let’s Plant - tree planting event next week
09/27/2021
The Kahnawà:ke Environment Protection Office (KEPO) would like to invite the community to participate in the upcoming tree planting initiative, Há’o Tewaiéntho! Let’s Plant!, as part of KEPO’s Climate Change Project.
The event will take place from 8am-12pm from Monday, October 4, to Saturday, October 9, 2021, with a goal of planting 475 indigenous trees and shrubs in several public locations across the community. These areas were identified as “hot spots;” zones with dense concentrations of pavement, buildings, and other surfaces that absorb and retain heat (see image).
Trees and shrubs will not only beautify the community and offer shelter/sustenance to wildlife, but also assist in our fight against climate change by lowering the temperature in these areas and providing cleaner air.
COVID-19 safety precautions will be respected during the event (hand hygiene, physical distancing, and masking). All volunteers must preregister online (https://forms.gle/T9frYxVXBt4YV8qQ8).
