Highway 138 Multi-Purpose Lane Open 6am - 9:30am Weekdays Only

12/11/2008

The Mohawk Council of Kahnaw:ke would like to remind users of Highway 138 about the conditions to access to the Multi-Purpose Lane within the Kahnaw:ke Territory.

Access to this lane is reserved for buses with a license plate beginning with the letter A, or emergency vehicles in emergency mode only.

The Multi-Purpose Lane is open to Kahnaw:ke local traffic between 6am and 9:30am on weekdays only. Outside this period it becomes a shoulder where all vehicles are forbidden to drive. The term local traffic applies to any motorist/persons working in, or doing business with a point of destination on the Mohawk Territory of Kahnaw:ke.

Moreover, at the eastern end of the Multi-Purpose lane, motorists are obliged to take the access ramp to Highway 207. Motorists are never permitted to use the Multi-Purpose Lane for faster access to the Mercier Bridge or to Highway 132 in the direction of Sainte-Catherine.

We also take this opportunity to remind you that all vehicles must observe the posted speed limit at all times, except for emergency vehicles responding to an emergency call. The Kahnaw:ke Peacekeepers will continue to control traffic on Mohawk Territory roads and monitor the use of the Multi-Purpose Lane.
