KEPO Fish Sampling Continuing October 18th-22nd
10/15/2021
The Kahnawą:ke Environment Protection Office (KEPO) would like to inform the community that work to complete fish sampling will take place from Monday, October 18th until Friday, October 22nd, in the Suzanne River, Little Suzanne River, and North Creek.
Sampling will be done using a backpack electrofishing unit, which is used to stun fish with an electrical current. Once fish have been measured, they will be returned safely to the stream. A very small subset of small fish will be kept as specimens. The use of this equipment creates a temporary electrical hazard within 300 feet upstream and downstream of the sampling area. Please see the sample locations with marked red triangles on the map below.
We ask the community to stay out of the areas of the river marked on the map below while present and conducting sampling. KEPO staff and vehicles will be clearly marked so that accidental entry into the sampling area will be prevented. Once sampling is complete, the river will be safe for normal use. This is part of KEPOs larger aquatic monitoring program in Kahnawą:ke.
For questions, please contact KEPO at 450-635-0600 or environmentprotection@mck.ca.
