Notice for persons who must re-submit Indian Day School claims

11/12/2021

In regard to the Indian Day School (IDS) Settlement, the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke wishes to inform persons who have received letters from Deloitte advising that your applications have missing information, or if you have received a Reconsideration letter, you can receive assistance from Kahnawà:ke’s IDS Coordinator Louise Mayo.

Ms. Mayo can assist with navigating the requests for information and resubmissions.

Please note that, according to Deloitte, over 90% of claims exceeding estimated timelines for settlement are due to errors on the claim form that need to be rectified. Deloitte has posted on its website that, as of November 3, 2021 there are currently over 10,000 claims requiring additional information. The following is a list of the most common errors or deficiencies in the applications:

  • Copy of ID is missing or unreadable
  • Legal name does not match the name on the claim form
  • Address is incomplete – remember to include your Post Office box number
  • School name(s) and/or years of attendance must be included
  • Missing signatures or dates
  • Level of harm has not been selected

Also, a claim that has been submitted twice (i.e. once by mail and once by fax) slows down the process because Deloitte must cross-reference the forms to ensure they are, in fact, the same.

If you have not yet submitted your claim or are still in the process of submitting it, you can contact the IDS Coordinator at 514-793-0662 or via email at louise.mayo@mck.ca. She is available to go through the form with you to ensure your application is properly completed.
