PK Clarification regarding Amber Alert

11/22/2021

Forwarded on behalf of the Kahnawake Peacekeepers

The Kahnawà:ke Peacekeepers would like to clarify the events surrounding the Amber Alert issued on November 20th, 2021. The Peacekeepers received the report at 15:27. Investigators contacted the Sûreté du Québec and began the process of issuing an Amber Alert.

When the alert was issued at 17:59, the subject and suspect were at the United States Customs Office in Highgate Springs, Vermont. Because the child was located and determined to not be in danger, the Amber Alert was cancelled.

The Peacekeepers were later advised that the subject and the suspect were allowed to leave the customs office, because documentation regarding custody agreements were not considered official.

The investigation is on-going and charges related to the incident are to be determined.
