Sky-Deer participating in Grand Economic Circle of Indigenous People and Quebec

11/25/2021

The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke wishes to inform the community that Ohénton Í:iente ne Ratitsénhaienhs Kahsennenhawe Sky-Deer is participating in the Grand Economic Circle of Indigenous People and Quebec, organized by the Assembly of First Nations Quebec-Labrador, First Nations of Quebec & Labrador Economic Development Commission, the Secrétariat aux Affaires Autochtones, and the Government of Quebec.

The event, which is scheduled for the next two days in Montreal, brings together First Nations and Quebec business representatives and elected officials to discuss the present-day economic realities faced by First Nation communities. The Grand Economic Circle aims to initiate dialogue between businesses, organizations, and public officials, with the goals of committing towards better inclusion of Indigenous Peoples in the economy.

“I’m looking forward to engaging with other communities to discuss not only the economic barriers that we all face but also to share our successes,” said Sky-Deer. “It will be an excellent opportunity to share Kahnawake’s vision towards a sustainable economic future with the broader business community and leadership from other communities. It’s the first step towards establishing new partnerships and opportunities for each of our communities.”

Sky-Deer will also be a panelist for a discussion on Focusing on Representativeness in Key Positions for Strong Economic Reconciliation alongside Assembly of First Nations National Chief RoseAnne Archibald and Grand Council of the Crees Grand Chief Mandy Gull-Masty; as well as the panel Economic Partnerships for All, alongside Hydro-Quebec President Sophie Brochu.
