Indigenous Services Canada Kahnawake office changes affecting Indian Day School applicants
12/03/2021
The Mohawk Council of Kahnawą:ke wishes to provide the following advisory due to concerns/complaints regarding requests for information or assistance from the Kahnawą:ke office of the Department of Indigenous Services Canada (DISC). More specifically, this is in regard to requests for assistance in situations where a person is requesting to be appointed, or has been appointed, as the executor or administrator for Indian Day School settlement claims.
Because of the pandemic, all calls to the Kahnawą:ke office (450-638-1372) are currently being rerouted to the DISC Quebec regional office phone number. When persons call, a message in French is announced, which is followed by a similar one in English. Unfortunately, some persons are unaware that the English message follows and hang up in frustration. Callers are reminded that it is very important NOT to hang up. Simply leave your name and contact information. All calls are answered within 24 to 72 hours, and appointments continue to be made for services.
For other requests for information regarding Indian Day School settlement claims, please contact Louise Mayo, Kahnawą:kes Indian Day Schools Settlement Coordinator at 514-793-0662 or louise.mayo@mck.ca.
