Forwarded on behalf of the Kanien’kehá:ka Onkwawén:na Raotitióhkwa Language & Cultural Center The Kanien’kehá:ka Onkwawén:na Raotitióhkwa Language & Cultural Center (KORLCC), the Turtle Island Theatre Company, Kahnawà:ke Tourism, and the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke wish to inform the community that the donor research study for the Multi-Purpose Building capital campaign has been completed and results have been received (the executive summary report is available here).
In December 2020, the team began to strategize for a capital campaign, which is necessary to assist in raising nearly $7 million toward the new KORLCC, museum and theatre – the “cultural village hub” for the community. Kahnawà:ke’s PlanIt Consulting & Communications was hired to assist with the critical planning process. Their first task was to implement a Donor Research Study to assess the readiness for a capital campaign.
“We are very excited to update the community that the study demonstrates overwhelming support for Kahnawà:ke to have this important project come to fruition,” said Kawennanóron Lisa Phillips. “Kahnawa’kehró:non are enthusiastic, and our friends and neighbors have shown great interest in helping us realize the dream of a permanent home for our language, culture, and arts. The project is awaiting a response from grant funding applications; however, behind the scenes, we are busily creating action plans for a campaign launch.”
The team is set to embark on this capital campaign by recruiting and selecting a ‘Campaign Cabinet’ to steer this initiative toward success. The cabinet will be comprised of twelve (12) influential individuals who are willing to give their time and efforts to be the backbone of the campaign. There will be auxiliary committees developed for volunteers, communications, and events.
The team is confident that the goals will be met, as there is an obvious high level of interest in this project. Additional information and details on the capital campaign itself will be announced at a future date.
