Tioweroton Territory to receive new vehicles

The Lands Unit of the Mohawk Council of Kahnaw�:ke (MCK) is pleased to inform the community that the Tiower�:ton Department will be securing the purchase of new work vehicles for the Tiower�:ton Territory. Included in the purchase is an ARGO, two snowmobiles, a truck, and a side-by-side. 

A recent vehicle assessment indicated that some of the current vehicles have made it challenging to meet the demands of performing duties in Tiower�:ton. The purchase comes at a time when Tiower�:ton has been the site of recent public safety matters that require the Caretakers to access vast distances and difficult terrain, and required borrowing equipment from community members. 

The cost of the new vehicles, estimated to be $187,500, was approved by the MCK�s Finance, Administration & Operations Committee, and other pre-budgeted sources. This purchase will allow the Caretakers to be able to improve access to the entire Territory, and to provide assistance to Kahnaw�:ke Search & Rescue and the Kahnaw�:ke Environment Protection Office for their operations in Tiower�:ton.
