Mohawk Council comments on Kentucky Decision on Internet Gaming
01/22/2009
The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke would like to inform the community that it is pleased with the decision of the Kentucky Court of Appeals to reverse a decision by a lower court that would see Internet gaming companies surrender their domain names to the Commonwealth (state) of Kentucky.
Several of those domain names are owned by companies licensed through the Kahnawà:ke Gaming Commission.
“Though we were confident that Kentucky was completely off-base in its initial decision, it is nonetheless gratifying to see that the Court of Appeals agreed with our assertion that Kentucky has no right to seize the domain names of our clients,” said Grand Chief Michael Ahríhrhon Delisle, Jr.
In October 2008 Chief Delisle sent a letter to Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear outlining Kahnawà:ke’s position on the matter and its concerns over Kentucky’s interference in our business activities.
