01/26/2022
The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke wishes to offer its sincerest condolences on the passing of Norma Delaronde, who entered the spirit world at the age of 90 on Thursday, January 20th.
Norma, a mother of 11, grandmother of 31, great-grandmother of 43, and great-great-grandmother of 10, was the matriarch of the Delaronde family, wife, sister, aunt, friend, and Turtle Clan Mother for the Mohawk Nation at Kahnawà:ke.
During her lifetime, Norma was a strong voice for Kanien’ké:ha, always encouraging others to speak and learn. The compassion she expressed for family, friends, and the community held her in high esteem amongst anyone who had the opportunity to cross her path. The spirit of love and respect that she advocated for will continue on in the many lives she has touched.
“Norma always expressed the importance of conducting ourselves with a good mind and was a true example of that with her leadership, guidance, and care for those around her,” said Ohén:ton í:iente ne Ratitsénhaienhs Kahsennenhawe Sky-Deer. “I, in conjunction with my colleagues, will continue to hold these values close as our community says our final farewell to her today.”
To the family, all relatives, friends, and community, our thoughts are with you as Norma continues her new journey in the spirit world.
