Significant snowfall expected
02/02/2022
The Public Safety Division of the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke wishes to advise the community that Environment Canada has issued a Special Weather Statement for our area.
Over the next 48 hours, we will see a weather system move into our region, which will bring a risk of freezing rain tonight, that will change over to snow in the evening. The forecast is calling for a significant snowfall, which is expected to bring at least 15 centimeters (or approximately 5.9 inches) of snow for Thursday, into Friday. Winds could also cause local blowing snow, which could make travelling hazardous.
As potential freezing rain causes slippery conditions, ensure your walkways and driveways are well salted or maintained to prevent falls. It is not advised to travel during these dangerous conditions, but if you do, please exercise caution on the road.
Please continue to monitor local media outlets and weather forecasts for updated weather information.
