Trains Blocking Level Crossings

02/11/2009

It has come to the attention of the Community Protection Unit (CPU) that trains have been blocking certain railway crossings on the Territory, either by moving very slowly back and forth or coming to a complete stop.

“It is illegal for these trains to block a railway crossing”, says CPU Emergency Planning Manager Kellyann Meloche. “Unless they have an emergency of their own, they must ensure access can be attained in the event residents require emergency assistance.”

If you are a resident in the area of Indian Way School or any other railway crossing on the Territory and you notice a train stopped or moving very slowly (less than 10 km/h), please contact the CPU offices at 450-632-0635 or Kellyann Meloche directly at 514-209-7777.

“Unless we’re made aware of a situation we can’t do anything to rectify it”, Ms. Meloche stated. “We want to ensure all Kahnawa’kehró:non have access to emergency services as quickly as possible when they need it.”
