03/10/2022
The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke’s Housing Unit wishes to advise the community that it has received approval for funding to conduct work to improve Kahnawà:ke’s Housing programs and services
At Monday’s duly-convened Council meeting, the Council of Chiefs approved an amount of $175,000 that covers the cost for a Housing Study and a Housing Restructuring Strategy. Additionally, approximately $25,000 of the project costs will be covered by the Canada Mortgage Housing Corporation’s Skills Budget allocation fund. The funds will be administered through the Housing Unit and be accessed through the Appropriated Housing Reserve. Any remaining or unused funds will be allocated back to the Reserve.
Following the feedback received from the two recent Housing Surveys, the results will guide the upcoming Housing Study with the ultimate goal to improve all programs the MCK Housing Unit will be offering, including a revaluation feasibility exercise to increase the maximum amount offered through the mortgage loans and identify the required selection criteria to achieve this.
“We are continuing the ongoing work to make improvements to our services to the community,” said Ratsénhaienhs Ryan Montour, who is the lead on the Housing file on behalf of the Council of Chiefs. “These two projects are urgently needed and will help provide essential information that will help us to be far more efficient in all facets of Housing. With the information we have gathered from the community with the recent surveys, we believe we are very much on the right track to achieve our goals.”
