03/15/2022

The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke would like to inform the community regarding an event that took place last evening. Ratitsénhaienhs Kahsennenhawe Sky-Deer, Tonya Perron, Jessica Lazare, Cody Diabo, and Arnold Boyer met for a dinner meeting with New Zealand′s High Commissioner to Canada Martin Harvey and Second Secretary to the High Commission Emma Rennie.

"It was nice to hear the officials speak of the Māori culture and even use some of their language during our discussions," said Ohén:ton Í:iente ne Ratitsénhaienhs Kahsennenhawe Sky-Deer. "The whole premise of the dinner meeting was to see how we can develop exchanges and partnerships between Indigenous Peoples from New Zealand and Turtle Island."

The Council of Chiefs will follow up with the High Commissioner’s office on next steps.
