KEPO Stream Water Temperature Logger Deployment
04/13/2022
The Kahnawą:ke Environment Protection Office (KEPO) would like to inform the community that we will be deploying 20 water temperature data loggers throughout the communitys creeks in mid-April, between the 18th-20th, depending on weather conditions.
These small units will record water temperature data every 10 minutes for years to come. They will be housed in small pieces of PVC pipe strapped inside of cinder blocks and placed in creek beds in the Suzanne River, Little Suzanne River, Delormier Creek, and the 132 Drainage Creek. This will provide information on the suitability of the habitat for fish (year-round residence, rearing, and spawning). It will also enable us to track climate change impacts on our local waters.
Please do not disturb or move these cinderblocks and loggers, as this could cause errors in data collection. We thank you for your assistance in monitoring the health of our waterways.
This is part of KEPOs larger Aquatic Stewardship Program in Kahnawą:ke. For more information, please contact KEPO at 450-635-0600 or environmentprotection@mck.ca.
