KEPOs No Mow May Challenge
04/22/2022
The Kahnawà:ke Environment Protection Office (KEPO) is inviting Kahnawa’kehró:non to join a new challenge for the month of May. The No Mow May / Nó:nen Onerahtohkó:wa Nikahá:wi, Tóhsa’ Sewathéntia’k! challenge asks community members to refrain from cutting their lawns for the entire month with the goal of supporting biodiversity and pollinators.
By waiting until June to cut our lawns, we:
- Allow insects and their food supplies the opportunity to undergo a critical part of their life cycle – particularly pollinators.
- Encourage native plant species to develop.
- Conserve resources, time, and money by not using lawn care equipment.
Participants will be asked to send weekly progress photos to environmentprotection@mck.ca. All participants who complete the No Mow May challenge will be entered into a draw to win one of three gardening-themed prizes worth $150!
To register, please fill out the form at http://kahnawake.com/nomowmay, http://ow.ly/3I5X50IQfL0, or scan the QR code below with your smartphone to register.
