Eastern Bluebird Nest Box Trail Installation
04/25/2022
The Kahnawà:ke Environment Protection Office (KEPO) would like to inform the community of the installation of a trail of ten eastern bluebird (tioròn:iase’) nest boxes on the old Kahnawà:ke Survival School campus on Tuesday, April 26, 2022.
The eastern bluebird is a small, brightly-colored migratory thrush. They can be found in open woodlands, often perched atop telephone poles or fences. Eastern bluebird populations have seen a decline due to the loss of habitats and nesting sites. The creation of a nesting trail in Kahnawà:ke will help support bluebird populations while providing educational opportunities for Kahnawà:ke Survival School students.
The nest box trail will be clearly identified with signage, and KEPO staff will be monitoring the nest boxes throughout the breeding season. Please do not disturb the nest boxes.
This project is funded by Bird Protection Quebec.
For more information, please contact KEPO at 450-635-0600 or environmentprotection@mck.ca.
