Public Safety, Indigenous children, Innovation Center, and Vatican visit on AFNQL Chiefs Assembly agenda

The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke wishes to advise the community that several Ratitsénhaienhs will be attending the Assembly of First Nations Quebec – Labrador ‘Chiefs Assembly’ taking place in Montreal this week.
Nitsénhaienhs Ryan Montour and Arnold Boyer will be attending the Wednesday meetings, which will focus on Public Security and Policing. An update on an Act to authorize the communication of personal information to the families of Indigenous children who went missing or died after being admitted to an institution is also on the agenda.
Ohén:ton Í:iente ne Ratitsénhaienhs (Grand Chief) Kahsennenhawe Sky-Deer and Ratsénhaienhs Ross Montour will attend a working session on ‘Affirming our Self-Determination’ on Wednesday evening. The Thursday session, which both will also attend, will further focus on Self-Determination, as well as wildlife and environmental issues, the First Nations Innovation Center academic project, and the upcoming visit by the Pope to Quebec City.
The Assembly will be held in person. Previous meetings were held virtually due to the pandemic.
