Kahnawake Justice Commission seeks new members

The Mohawk Council of Kahnaw�:ke wishes to advise the community that the Kahnaw�:ke Justice Commission (�the Commission�) is seeking two community representatives to serve as members of the Commission.

Roles and Responsibilities include:

  • Providing oversight to MCK Justice Services;
  • Ensuring the independence of judges;
  • Ensuring the institutional independence of the Court of Kahnaw�:ke; and
  • Ensuring the reasonable and sufficient independence of members of the Administrative Tribunal.

The Commission meets monthly, with honorarium provided as per the Kahnaw�:ke Justice Commission Honorarium Policy. Eligibility requirements can be found in the Terms of Reference (click here).

Interested persons should submit a letter of intent by June 13, 2022 to:

The Kahnaw�:ke Justice Commission consists of three (3) voting members, with one (1) non-voting member (the Commissioner of Justice) serving as the Chairperson. The Commission�s mandate is to provide oversight to Justice Services by monitoring its activities in matters concerning the administration of the Kahnaw�:ke Justice System, and to also ensure that the integrity of the Kahnaw�:ke Justice System is protected and defended.
