Severe weather warning in effect
06/16/2022
The Public Safety Unit of the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke is advising the community that Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for Kahnawà:ke and surrounding areas this afternoon (Thursday).
The warm and humid weather conditions create potential for severe thunderstorms, strong wind gusts, heavy downpours, and a risk of a tornado.
Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees, and overturn large vehicles. Water-related activities may be unsafe due to violent and sudden wind gusts over bodies of water.
Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favorable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail; damaging winds, torrential rainfall.
Intense lightning is likely with any thunderstorm that develops. The Public Safety reminds Kahnawa’kehrò:non that, when thunder roars, go indoors.
If you have any questions or for more information please call the Public Safety Unit at 450-632-0635.
