CP Rail to undertake vegetation management
06/27/2022
The Public Safety Division of the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke is advising community members that CP Rail will be on the Territory to conduct vegetation management of the train tracks on Tuesday, June 28, 2022.
The process will take approximately twenty (20) minutes and will see the use of an approved herbicide to prevent weed growth, which blocks the drainage of the railway roadbed/ballast and obscures the view of track inspectors. Weed growth can also interfere with train signals and sight lines at railroad crossings, resulting in increased concerns towards safety.
Vegetation management is an integral part of railroad safety and required as per Transport Canada’s rules respecting track safety.
The last time CP Rail applied herbicide on the tracks within the Territory was in 2020.
